On Sunday, the Orange Line project in Kolkata achieved a major milestone by bridging a 62-meter viaduct gap at the busy Chingrighata crossing. Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) utilized a continuous day-night traffic block that began on Friday night to place 12 concrete pieces across the gap between piers 318 and 319. This crucial work had been stalled since February 2, 2025, due to traffic concerns at the intersection. With the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in place, local police granted a 60-hour traffic block in two phases over the weekends, allowing for uninterrupted construction. Previously, the police had only allowed 27-hour blocks after intervention from the high court and Supreme Court. The Garia-bound flank is set to reopen three hours ahead of schedule, at 5 am on Monday. RVNL engineers, led by chief project manager Vipin Kumar, oversaw the work, ensuring safety and stability in the construction process, supported by a report from IIT-Guwahati.
