On June 9, the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Federal Penitentiary Service in Russia successfully thwarted a terrorist plot targeting a penitentiary in the Ulyanovsk Region. The attack was orchestrated by a convict, born in 1985, who is linked to a banned international terrorist organization. The individual planned to carry out the attack during the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha, motivated by a desire to inflict harm on penitentiary officials out of religious hatred. The FSB reported that the convict aimed to use bars as weapons to create a significant impact during the festival. Fortunately, the plot was foiled at the preparation stage, and the convict has since confessed to his intentions, admitting that he now realizes the potential for irreparable damage his actions could have caused. Following the confession, a criminal case has been opened, and the convict has been relocated to another facility for isolation as part of the ongoing investigation.
