Gulveer Singh, a 27-year-old Indian distance runner, has etched his name in history by setting a new national record in the men's 5000m outdoor event at the Sound Running Track Fest in Los Angeles, USA. He finished second with a remarkable time of 13:03.93, which not only earned him a silver medal but also improved his own national record by nearly eight seconds from his previous mark of 13:11.82, set in Japan in September 2024. The gold medal was claimed by Habtom Samuel from New Mexico, who completed the race in 12:57.22. Gulveer's personal best remains 12:59.77, achieved in an indoor competition earlier. This year, he also made headlines by becoming the first Indian to run a half-marathon in under one hour, finishing in 59:42 at the New York City Half Marathon. As a versatile athlete, Gulveer holds multiple national records, including those for the 3,000m track and 25km road race. With his sights set on upcoming competitions, he is confident about securing podium finishes at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games later this year.
