The Rajya Sabha elections for two seats in Jharkhand have become more competitive with the entry of Parimal Nathwani, an industrialist and former MP, supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The JMM-led alliance currently holds a majority with 56 MLAs, needing 28 first-preference votes to win, while the NDA has 24 MLAs, insufficient for guaranteed victory. Nathwani's previous tenure and developmental work in Jharkhand bolster his appeal, but observers note that the BJP's strategy hinges on his ability to attract votes beyond the NDA's official tally. Despite this, JMM and Congress leaders project confidence, asserting that their coalition will remain united and dismissing fears of defections. They view Nathwani's entry as a tactic by the BJP to sow discord in a seemingly settled election.
