According to a new study by Global Citizen Solutions, Lisbon has been named the most liveable city for expats, achieving an impressive score of 88.49 out of 100. The ranking considered various factors beyond just economic strength, including healthcare quality, safety, air quality, and social integration. Following Lisbon, Amsterdam and Melbourne ranked second and third, scoring 81.97 and 81.79 respectively. The researchers noted that cities like Lisbon and Barcelona excel in providing a balance of moderate costs, good healthcare, and social accessibility, making them attractive destinations for expatriates from the UK and the United States. The study evaluated 35 cities across six continents, using seven indicators to determine livability. Notably, while cities like Vienna and Copenhagen scored highly overall, they struggled with social integration. The report also highlighted affordable options in Southeast Asia and Latin America, such as Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok, which are popular among expats due to established communities. For UK residents, Lisbon’s proximity, with direct flights taking about 2.5 to 3 hours, adds to its appeal.
