CPI(M) State Secretary Sanjay Chauhan emphasized that the Chief Secretary position should be held by someone with impeccable integrity, especially given Gupta's controversial background, which includes pending FIRs and allegations of misconduct in administrative decisions. Notably, a Public Interest Litigation is currently before the High Court of Himachal Pradesh, addressing issues of institutional integrity related to Gupta's actions. The CPI(M) has raised specific concerns about Gupta's involvement in questionable land transactions and procurement irregularities, including significant contracts awarded under suspicious circumstances. Chauhan argues that appointing Gupta amidst these allegations undermines good governance and public trust. The party has called for the immediate withdrawal of Gupta's appointment and for legal actions to be initiated against him, reinforcing the need for accountability in public office.
