On Monday, a team from the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) visited the residence of Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged signature forgery case involving Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders. The CID has established a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter, which includes claims from several MLAs that their signatures were forged in a meeting resolution. Abhishek Banerjee has been requested to provide the original resolution document submitted to the West Bengal Assembly Speaker. The investigation follows complaints from two TMC MLAs who alleged that the resolution regarding the Leader of Opposition selection was fabricated, with 14 signatures appearing in block letters. The CID took over the case after it was registered by the Hare Street Police Station under various sections related to cheating and forgery. The TMC has since suspended the two MLAs involved in the complaint, citing anti-party activities. The investigation is ongoing, with the CID having recorded statements from 13 MLAs so far.
