In May, JSW Steel reported a 15% increase in its crude steel production, reaching 2.29 million tonnes compared to the previous year. This growth was primarily attributed to the full operational capacity at its Dolvi plant and the ramp-up of operations at Jindal Vijayanagar Steel Limited (JVML). Production from Indian operations alone was 2.19 million tonnes, up from 1.91 million tonnes a year earlier. Additionally, the company's facility in Ohio saw a 20% rise in output, totaling 950,000 tonnes. Despite a key blast furnace at the Vijayanagar facility being offline for expansion, overall capacity utilization remained robust at 87%, while it was 98% when excluding the affected furnace's capacity. JSW Steel is also planning to expand its total crude steel capacity from 37.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 54.8 MTPA within the next four years. The production figures for the previous year were adjusted to exclude output from Bhushan Power and Steel Ltd, which was transferred to a joint venture with Japan's JFE Steel in March 2026.
