Dasoju Sravan, a senior leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), has raised concerns regarding the Telangana state government's decision to centralize the procurement of groceries for students in welfare residential schools and hostels. In a letter addressed to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Chief Secretary K Rama Krishna Rao, Sravan questioned the rationale behind this move, suggesting it is motivated by a conspiracy to embezzle funds through inflated commissions on centralized tenders. He pointed out that district collectors, who manage complex projects and public distribution systems, should be capable of procuring quality essentials locally. Sravan emphasized the significance of the locally sourced Tandur Red Gram, which has an international Geographical Indication (GI) tag, in the diets of impoverished students. He alleges that the government intends to replace this with inferior pulses imported from African nations, which may contain harmful residues. Sravan called for the immediate cancellation of the centralized grocery tender and urged the government to reinstate transparent procurement processes through District Procurement Committees (DPCs), as outlined by the Telangana State Food Corporation's guidelines.
