Pune residents may soon experience water supply on alternate days starting June 15, as civic officials respond to declining reservoir levels and a delayed monsoon. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and two cantonment boards are considering this rationing to conserve water amid concerns about available stocks and predictions of below-normal rainfall. Mayor Manjusha Nagpure stated that the decision follows recommendations from the Water Resources Department to reduce water consumption by 15%. The combined water storage in the city's dams currently stands at 10.48 TMC, significantly lower than the total capacity of 46.49 TMC. Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram indicated that similar measures have been implemented in the past during periods of low rainfall. Despite previous assurances of sufficient water supply, the situation has changed, prompting the PMC to propose alternate-day supply. Authorities are appealing to residents to use water judiciously, fix leaks, and avoid wastage as the city braces for possible restrictions in the coming days.
