On Saturday, the Sambhal district administration conducted an anti-encroachment drive in Sirsi town, demolishing an illegally built mazar located in a lake area under the Hazrat Nagar Garhi police station. The lake, recorded as government land, covers approximately 11.495 hectares (around 180 bighas). This operation was initiated under the direction of the newly appointed district magistrate, Ankit Khandelwal, as part of a campaign to clear encroachments from public land and restore water bodies for groundwater conservation.
The illegal structure, identified as the Sher Ali Baba Pir Mazar, occupied about 23 square meters of the lake land. Legal proceedings began in 2024, leading to eviction orders after the caretaker of the shrine passed away and no objections were raised. The demolition lasted nearly three hours and was overseen by local revenue officials and police to ensure law and order. Following the successful operation, the administration plans to undertake restoration and beautification efforts at the lake site.
