As millions of Americans travel for Memorial Day Weekend, law enforcement officers around the country are preparing for busy roads that will likely bring more car crashes. "We see a lot more crashes typically between now and Labor Day. It's always the 100 most dangerous days for driving," Lt. Matthew Keenliside with the Pelham Police Department said. Pelham will have extra police officers on staff during Memorial Day Weekend for driving under the influence enforcement and distracted driving prevention. The lieutenant said that if you see a driver varying their speed, swerving in and out of their lane, or driving erratically, call police. "There's really no excuse for impaired driving these days. You can designate a friend, to not drink and drive; Uber, Lyft, any other rideshare. There's always a way," Lt. Keenliside said. According to a report by the National Safety Council, 393 people may die on U.S. roads this Memorial Day holiday period. Driving under the influence can result in the loss of your license or jail time.
