The Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM) officially launched the Jewish Mayors and Municipal Leaders Association (JMMLA) on Monday in Miami Beach, Florida, marking a significant step in uniting Jewish elected officials across the United States. The inaugural event, hosted by Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner, emphasized the responsibility of municipal leaders to confront antisemitism and advocate for the safety of all residents. Meiner stated, “History has taught the Jewish people the cost of silence,” highlighting the need for proactive engagement against hatred. CAM Chief Government Affairs Officer Lisa Katz noted the historical role of Jewish leaders in American civic life, emphasizing that the association will serve as a collective voice on critical issues impacting the Jewish community. The JMMLA's founding coincides with Jewish American Heritage Month and the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States, underscoring the contributions of Jewish Americans throughout history. The association aims to foster collaboration among members, focusing on public safety, extremism prevention, and responsible governance. Founding members committed to taking concrete actions within 90 days to enhance community safety and belonging, marking a proactive approach to addressing contemporary challenges.
