The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced that there have been no major security incidents following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hit Mindanao earlier this week. The earthquake, which struck 32 kilometers southwest of Maasim, Sarangani, has resulted in 37 confirmed deaths, according to Diego Mariano, deputy spokesperson for the Office of Civil Defense. PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. stated that despite the widespread disruption caused by the quake, peace and order remain stable. He noted that four police stations and two regional headquarters experienced varying levels of damage, affecting 241 personnel. The PNP is actively coordinating with local government units and other agencies to ensure effective search, rescue, and assistance operations for those impacted by the disaster. Nartatez emphasized the importance of having adequate manpower and resources for a unified response to assist affected communities.
