The Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) is set to organize statewide protests on May 25 at district headquarters in response to recent increases in petrol and diesel prices. HPCC president Vinay Kumar criticized the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming it has allowed oil companies to exploit the public. He stated that the continuous rise in fuel prices is exacerbating inflation and increasing the cost of essential commodities. Kumar accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of being 'silent' on the issue while focusing on political maneuvering. He expressed confidence that the Congress party would stand with the public against what he termed as injustices and would not shy away from democratic movements. The recent fuel price hikes, which occurred on May 15, 19, and 23, saw petrol prices rise by approximately ₹4.74 per litre and diesel by ₹4.82 per litre. Kumar also noted the BJP's frustration following the results of recent urban local body elections in Himachal Pradesh, suggesting that the party is struggling to maintain its position.
