Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides recently visited India, marking a significant step in bilateral relations by elevating ties to a 'Strategic Partnership.' This partnership aims to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including security, defense, technology, and economic connectivity. During the visit, six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed, including a roadmap for Defence Cooperation from 2026 to 2031 and the establishment of a Cyber Security Dialogue. Additionally, Cyprus will join the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative, focusing on trade and maritime transport. Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the importance of this partnership, noting the extensive discussions on enhancing investment linkages and cooperation in infrastructure, energy, agriculture, technology, and financial services. President Droupadi Murmu also expressed India's unwavering support for Cyprus' sovereignty and territorial integrity. As both nations approach 65 years of diplomatic relations in 2027, this visit is expected to further strengthen their collaboration within the broader India-European Union framework.
