In Lucknow, two women police recruitment aspirants successfully defended themselves against an alleged rape attempt by an autorickshaw driver on June 8. The women, aged 19 and 20 from Lakhimpur Kheri, were en route to Raebareli for a police constable recruitment examination when the driver diverted them to a deserted area near Ramlila Ground. During the attack, the driver attempted to sexually assault them, leading to a struggle where the women fought back. One pushed the driver while the other bit his finger and called for help. A passerby heard their cries and rushed to assist, causing the driver to flee. Police arrived shortly after and provided assistance to the victims, who sustained minor injuries but were able to continue to their examination. The driver, identified as Haseeb, was arrested after an encounter the following day. Authorities noted that he is a habitual offender with a previous rape conviction.
