Air India Express has indefinitely postponed its planned operations from Noida International Airport (NIA), which is set to open next week. This decision reduces the number of airlines launching services at the new airport, leaving IndiGo and Akasa Air to commence operations on the opening day. IndiGo is expected to be the largest operator at NIA in the initial phase as airlines gradually increase their routes and frequencies. Additionally, Air India Express has withdrawn from Ghaziabad’s Hindon Airport, now exclusively serving the National Capital Region from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). Industry sources indicate that these changes are part of cost-rationalization efforts within the Air India Group, which is focused on reducing expenses amid rising operational costs and disruptions linked to tensions in West Asia. Hindon Airport has experienced a significant drop in traffic, now handling only a handful of daily flights, and is facing operational constraints such as limited parking bays. Despite these challenges, aviation stakeholders remain optimistic about future growth, with plans for expansion at both Hindon and Noida airports as market conditions improve.
