The New South Wales government has granted provisional approval for the Copi Mineral Sands Project, a significant $693 million initiative located near Mildura, Australia. This project aims to extract critical minerals, including rare earth concentrates and titanium-bearing minerals, with a target of processing up to 27 million tonnes over an 18-year lifespan. The mine is projected to create 480 jobs during construction and 240 ongoing roles. The project is crucial for global supply chains, particularly for industries like wind energy and electric vehicles, and has been recognized as one of the world's largest critical minerals projects. However, it still requires approval from the Commonwealth government under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. RZ Resources, the company behind the project, has secured investments from Japanese firms and aims to finalize funding soon. The project is expected to contribute $97 million annually to the local economy, highlighting its significance in the current global context of diversifying mineral supply chains.
