The Indian Navy is set to enhance its maritime capabilities by commissioning three indigenous vessels: Dunagiri, Agray, and Sanshodhak. Dunagiri, a stealth frigate, is part of the ₹45,000-crore Project 17A and will be inducted within a month. Agray, an anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft, and Sanshodhak, a large survey vessel, will also be commissioned simultaneously. These vessels represent a significant advancement in India’s indigenous warship-building program, with approximately 75% indigenous content. The P-17A frigates, including Dunagiri, are equipped with cutting-edge technologies such as BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles and advanced surveillance systems, enhancing their operational effectiveness. The Navy is working towards self-reliance by 2047, with plans to surpass the induction of 12 warships in 2026. This initiative comes as India aims to counteract China's growing maritime presence in the Indian Ocean Region, while also preparing for a leadership transition with Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan set to take command.
