Chrysler has initiated an urgent recall affecting approximately 1.08 million Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles in the United States due to a potential fire risk. The issue arises from a possible electrical connection problem in the electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring, which could lead to overheating and ignite nearby combustible materials. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has cautioned that fires may occur even when the vehicle is parked and the ignition is off, prompting owners to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until repairs are completed. The recall includes an additional 106,258 vehicles in Canada and 23,702 in Mexico. Stellantis, formed from the merger of Fiat Chrysler and PSA Group, is working to expedite the availability of repairs and expects to resolve the issue by July 2025. This recall adds to a series of setbacks for the Jeep brand, which has faced declining sales and previous recalls, including a software defect affecting airbag deployment in other models.
