Apollo Global Management and Blackstone are spearheading a substantial $35 billion expansion of Anthropic's artificial intelligence (AI) computing capacity, utilizing Broadcom's specialized chips and networking solutions. This collaboration, announced on June 9, will initially enhance Anthropic's capacity by one gigawatt, which can supply power to around 750,000 homes. The expansion is set to commence in mid-2026 at data centers operated by Fluidstack, which will provide the necessary infrastructure for Anthropic's AI systems. The partnership aims to facilitate a total of over 20 gigawatts of computing capacity for various leading AI labs, including OpenAI, by 2028. This move comes amid a growing trend where private equity firms are becoming key investors in AI infrastructure to address the increasing demand for advanced computing resources. Additionally, Broadcom's strategy to develop custom AI chips aligns with the industry's shift away from reliance on Nvidia. The collaboration also includes a long-term agreement between Broadcom and Alphabet's Google to produce future generations of AI chips, further solidifying the technological foundation for Anthropic's expansion.
