The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has rejected the bail application of Manisha Waghmare, a 47-year-old accused in the NEET paper leak case. Arrested on May 14, Waghmare's lawyer argued that she is a certified education counsellor and claimed a transaction of ₹3.5 lakh (approximately $4,200 USD) was a gift. However, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) opposed her bail, asserting that she leaked exam questions for financial gain and operated a beauty parlour. Prosecutors presented statements from students who allegedly paid for leaked physics, chemistry, and biology questions. The CBI also claimed that Waghmare destroyed the leaked papers after the NEET exam on May 3. Following the allegations, the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the NEET exam and has scheduled a re-examination for June 21. The court accepted the CBI's arguments and denied Waghmare bail, amidst a broader investigation that has led to the arrest of 13 individuals involved in the case, all of whom remain in judicial custody.
