In May, China's exports experienced a robust increase of 19.4% year-on-year, according to the customs agency. This growth marks an improvement from April's 14.1% rise. Notably, exports to the United States surged by over 35%, following an 11% increase in April. The strong performance in exports can be attributed to the continued demand for technology-related products, including semiconductors and computing equipment, despite the ongoing impacts of the Iran war. Imports also saw a significant rise, increasing by 27.4% in May, compared to 25.3% in April. However, China's crude oil imports plummeted to their lowest level in more than eight years, averaging around 7.8 million barrels per day, which is the lowest since October 2017. This decline in oil imports contrasts sharply with the overall increase in exports and imports, indicating shifting dynamics in China's trade relationships and economic activities.
