Anthropic has publicly launched Fable 5, a new AI model from its advanced Mythos class, which had been previously restricted to a select group of partner institutions due to cybersecurity concerns. Fable 5 is designed for various applications, including software coding, complex research inquiries, and image analysis. In addition, an unrestricted version, Claude Mythos 5, is available to about 200 organizations worldwide, particularly those involved in cybersecurity through Anthropic's Project Glasswing. The company has imposed restrictions on Mythos models to mitigate risks associated with their ability to identify vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure like banking and power grids. The US government has also engaged with Anthropic to test these models under security protocols. Fable 5 is priced at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, significantly higher than its predecessor, Opus 4.8. Despite rapid revenue growth, Anthropic faces challenges in achieving profitability, incurring substantial costs for computing power, including a $1.25 billion monthly lease for a datacenter from Elon Musk’s xAI.
