Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL), the largest city-gas distributor in North India, has appointed Kumar Shanker as its new Managing Director, effective immediately. Shanker succeeds Kamal Kishore Chatiwal, who is returning to the Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) after a three-year tenure at IGL. Kumar Shanker brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as Managing Director of Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd (MNGL), another joint venture involving GAIL and Bharat Petroleum Corporation, with equity from the Maharashtra government. IGL itself is a joint venture between GAIL and Bharat Petroleum, with the Delhi government holding a 5% stake. The company highlighted Shanker's extensive involvement in significant policy and regulatory developments within the Indian natural gas sector over the past two decades. Notably, he played a crucial role in the introduction of the Unified Tariff for the National Gas Grid System, which has been recognized as a significant reform in the sector. His leadership is expected to guide IGL in navigating future challenges and opportunities in the energy landscape.
