Cursor, an AI coding startup that has attracted interest from SpaceX, has selected London as its European headquarters, where it plans to hire around 200 employees. The decision comes as demand for tools that automate software development grows in the region. Ismail Elmas, Cursor's senior vice president for EMEA, noted that London offers a significant talent pool and the ability to support various European markets from one location. The company, which was founded in 2022, has rapidly scaled its operations, reporting approximately $2.6 billion in annualized business-to-business revenue. Cursor's software allows users to generate code by describing applications in natural language, which can expedite development processes. The startup is also looking to establish smaller offices in cities such as Paris, Munich, and Frankfurt to further enhance its presence in Europe. Cursor competes with established products like GitHub Copilot, OpenAI, and Google offerings, positioning itself as a flexible platform that accommodates different AI systems. As it expands, Cursor is responding to increasing customer demands for data privacy and compliance, particularly in regulated industries.
