A recent survey by the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) reveals that 20% of drivers in the UK are being forced to reduce their driving or adjust their household budgets due to soaring fuel prices, exacerbated by the ongoing Cost of Living crisis and the conflict in Iran. The survey found that 60% of drivers are worried about fuel costs, with 51% aware of the cheapest petrol stations near them. Additionally, 17% of respondents reported they can afford fuel but have to limit their vehicle use or household spending to manage expenses. To assist drivers, MaPS has launched a petrol price finder tool, which aims to provide real-time information on fuel prices and connect users to broader financial support services. Anna Sharkey, head of money and pensions policy at MaPS, emphasized the significant impact of fuel costs on daily household decisions, stating that filling up is no longer just an inconvenience. The survey, conducted by YouGov, included over 1,300 participants who drive at least once a week, highlighting the widespread concern over fuel affordability in the UK.
