In response to soaring temperatures, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to ensure a 'zero-cut' electricity supply across the state. This comes as daily electricity demand surged from 501 million units to 561 million units during April and May, with peak demand hitting 30,339 MW. Adityanath emphasized the importance of uninterrupted power for public welfare, agriculture, and industry, warning that negligence would lead to strict action against officials. The state's power generation capacity has significantly increased, now reaching 13,388 MW, with thermal plants contributing 9,120 MW and nearly 10,000 MW sourced from non-conventional energy projects. To further bolster the infrastructure, Adityanath has instructed improvements in the transmission network and quick responses to faults. The Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Limited operates 60,858 circuit kilometres of transmission lines, with transmission losses reduced to 3.2% and network availability improved to 99.30%. Plans are underway to add another 10,719 MW capacity by 2029 through various energy projects.
