On Tuesday, the Department of Health (DOH) announced that patients have been allowed back into hospitals in Sarangani following a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off the coast of Maasim on Monday morning. The earthquake prompted immediate evacuations for safety, particularly at Malungon Sarangani Provincial Hospital, which was among the hardest hit. As of the latest reports, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) confirmed 37 fatalities and 479 injuries. Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa visited General Santos City to oversee relief efforts and ensure that hospitals receive additional manpower through the Philippine Emergency Medical Assistance Team (PEMAT). The DOH has also dispatched trucks loaded with medicines and hygiene kits to support the affected regions, including Davao and Soccsksargen. While many patients have returned to hospitals, some remain in temporary facilities as structural assessments are ongoing to ensure safety.
